Radon mitigation is the process of reducing or eliminating radon gas from a building to protect its occupants from long-term health risks. Radon is a naturally occurring, invisible, radioactive gas that seeps into homes from the soil beneath foundations. Long-term exposure is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking — but the good news is, radon levels can be controlled effectively with the right system. We are a company dedicated to promoting environmental health practices and raising awareness of the importance of clean living. Our team at Environmental Home Solutions will work tirelessly for you to create a safer home environment with our radon mitigation systems.
If radon levels exceed the EPA action threshold of 4.0 pCi/L, a mitigation will be needed to bring the radon pCi/L down. The first step will be for us to evaluate the home’s foundation and sub-slab conditions to plan the system layout. A suction point is then drilled through the concrete slab, and a small cavity is excavated beneath to allow for airflow. A PVC vent pipe is then inserted and routed either through the house, garage attic, or along the exterior to discharge radon safely above the roofline. A specialized radon fan is installed—typically outside of the house or in an attic—to create continuous negative pressure beneath the slab, pulling radon gas out before it can enter the home. Any cracks, sump covers, or gaps in the slab are sealed to improve system efficiency. A manometer is mounted to the PVC pipe, and a post-installation radon test is performed to confirm that levels have dropped to a safe range. The result is a quiet, reliable system that significantly reduces radon exposure and helps ensure a healthier indoor environment.
